Britain’s Royal Ballet heads to Havana
A rare appearance of Britain’s Royal Ballet in Havana begins this week. Almost 100 dancers from Britain’s Royal Ballet has headed to Cuba for a series of shows, after the country having not hosted a foreign ballet for about 30 years. The first show is set for Tuesday; performances include a homage to well-known Cuban ballerina Alicia Alonso, with Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta.
Performances are to take place at the Gran Teatro in Central Havana, then later the Karl Marx Teatro. Screens outside the Gran Teatro will broadcast four of the performances.
Tickets had sold out in just a few hours. This hopefully will instigate further events and performances.
